Some buddy films make their chemistry through action. Runner movie draws a lot of its energy from sheer verbal contrast Alan Ritchson’s clipped, deadpan intensity crashing directly into Owen Wilson’s motor-mouthed, never-quite-serious energy. Early reviews are already praising the odd-couple dynamic of the two leads, and it’s shaping up to be a film with dialog as memorable as its car chases and cartel shootouts.
What Runner Movie Is About
Ex-soldier turned courier Hank Malone (Alan Ritchson) has three hours to deliver a liver to a sick little girl on the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Australia. The catch? He has to escort the man who brought the organ, Ben Bishop (Owen Wilson), while a ruthless cartel hunts them down to steal it for themselves. What follows is a frantic, violence-heavy chase up and down the Australian coast, where the pair’s survival depends on an alliance neither of them signed up for.
Key production details and cast of Runner Movie
Rodrigo Santoro plays the role of cartel member Damian Zaldívar. Leila George, Adriana Barraza, Sullivan Stapleton, Peta Sergeant, Geraldine Hakewill, Kate Box, Cecilia Toussaint and Scarlett Crabtree round out the supporting cast. Directed by Scott Waugh ( Act of Valor, The Expendables 4) and written by Miles Hubley and Tommy White, whose script spent some time on the Hollywood Black List before attracting this cast.
Ritchson also produces with Todd Garner, Mark Fasano and Jeffrey Greenstein. Shot on location in Australia, the film runs a sleek 95-98 minutes and is distributed by Angel Studios — possibly the most mainstream and far-reaching release the values-based studio has ever created. The film is rated PG-13, with some of its violence reportedly toned down to make that mark, and Angel hasn’t officially revealed a production budget. Runner arrives in theaters September 11, 2026.

Conclusion
Runner movie isn’t after prestige talk, it’s after the particular joy of seeing two wildly different performers refuse to melt into each other. Ritchson’s clipped intensity and Wilson’s chatty unpredictability are doing a lot of the heavy lifting, line by line, in the film, and that contrast alone might be reason enough to see it. There are already a handful of quotes out in the wild ahead of release, but expect plenty more one-liners once Runner movie opens wide on September 11.
